It just keeps getting better. For all it offers, including a highly envious all-round climate, we have always said that Malaga is perhaps one of the most underrated cities in the world. Thankfully, it appears that the Malaga region is finally receiving an ever growing global acclaim where more and more people are choosing to visit.
Through a survey and analysis of 420 cities across 89 different countries, with the exclusion of capital cities, Forbes magazine has officially ranked Malaga as the number one city choice for an urban getaway.
Forbes journalist Duncan Madden provides a glowing reference for all of what Malaga has to offer, from it stunning beaches, beautiful climate, museums, architecture, historical references to its famous variety of traditional and international cuisines and way of life. He simply quoted; “Visit for yourself and you’ll soon see why the world’s eyes are turning to this stunning corner of Andalucía.”
According to Google search data referring to the 420 cities in 89 countries around the world, Malaga is the sought popular alternative capital for a city break, with 478,000 global searches carried out annually for ‘Holidays in Malaga’.
The Forbes article further explains that “Madrid is already overshadowed by its more famous coastal neighbour, Barcelona. But Barcelona is not the second city of choice, perhaps thanks to its reputation as a crazed tourist hotspot already bursting at the seams with visitors.” It is also no secret that locals are becoming more disillusioned with the sheer numbers of tourism that Barcelona receives, where many local people have even chosen to take part in anti-tourism protests.
Duncan Madden highlights that “Malaga’s gorgeous beaches and free attractions like La Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle are attracting people from far away. The birthplace of Picasso and home to the Picasso Museum (free on Sundays!), visit for yourself and you’ll soon see why the world’s eye are turning to this stunning corner of Andalucía.”
Whilst such an accolade is great for us all to see, when we consider the growing consistency of enquiries and internet traffic that Sol Vida 365 have been receive for Malaga and the Costa del Sol in general, and the interaction we receive from people who experiences the lifestyle product that it offers, it really comes as no surprise.
The floating city of Venice ranked second among alternative destinations, with 262,000 searches. “Considered one of the most picturesque cities in Italy, surpassing Naples, Florence, and Pisa, its network of winding canals, striking Renaissance and Gothic architecture, and ornate bridges are just some of the things that make the city truly unlike any other.”
The US city of San Francisco came third in the ranking, beating New York City and Los Angeles and receiving 237,000 monthly searches worldwide.
